History of SRVGS

Our History

In 1984, Jean Blackmur envisioned a genealogy group that met during the daytime rather than in the evening as most of the Valley's other societies did. On January 15, 1985, twenty-five people held the first meeting at the old Danville Library. By May 1985, the San Ramon Valley Genealogical Society (SRVGS) had fifty-two charter members and a formal constitution. The group quickly outgrew its initial meeting space. The Society moved from the old Danville Library to St. Timothy's Social Hall, then to the Danville Women's Club, and later to the Guardian Rehabilitation Hospital.

Since 1990, the SRVGS has been based at the Danville Family Search Center in Alamo. Currently, our members enjoy the expertise of the FamilySearch Center staff and its library as well as the meeting and activity rooms.
